The RubyMac’s Story
It all started with a pair of badass grandparents, a dream, and a whole lot of coffee love.

The boss lady
Hi! I'm Joanna Becker, a born and raised Santa Fean and the founder of RubyMac's Coffee. Working in coffee shops has always been my side hustle from the age of 18. I've learned from some incredible badass boss ladies (hey Ally, Carina, Barb, Senay, and Yolanda) and even helped my family open Bayside Coffee in Door County, Wisconsin. Now, I am pumped to be a boss lady myself and make RubyMac's Coffee a reality for my hometown!

Ruby and Mac
I named my coffee trailer after my maternal grandparents, Ruby and Ranald "Mac" MacDonald as a tribute to their memory and the legacy they've left within my family.

Ruby had a passion for ham radio and aviation. In the 1960s, she was a member of the Antique and Experimental Aircraft Association and served as secretary of the Silver Wings Flying Club in Green Bay, WI. Her ham radio call sign, ‘XYL,’ was a nod to her role as a female operator.

Mac was also an aviation hobbyist. He owned a few different puddle jumpers including a bright yellow Piper Super Cub. He took his kids and their friends out for rides in the skies and these adventures left lasting impressions on them. In the 1960s, he was a member of the Antique and Experimental Aircraft Association and the Silver Wings Flying Club.

RubyMac's Coffee is a way of honoring the lives of these incredible ancestors and keeping their spirit alive in my own endeavors.

The community
RubyMac's Coffee would be little more than a dream without an amazing amount of support from my mentors, loved ones, and community—in Santa Fe and beyond. When I launched a Kickstarter in January 2025 to get RMC off the ground, nearly 100 people chipped in to raise more than $16,000, exceeding my campaign goal and giving me the chance I needed to make this dream come true. I have so much gratitude for everyone who has supported, and is supporting, me along this journey. Check out the Kickstarter campaign and all the incredible, generous supporters here.
